Example of the micro-managing under Miles' Regime:  DISD school counselors now have to document on line and on paper what they are doing every 30 minutes.  This is not a great use of district time, money and resources... and is not student friendly or helpful!

Get rid of Miles.  Take the bullying heat off our principals and teachers so that they can do their job.

Our poor principals have vacancies that they can't fill because no one wants to come to Dallas ISD.  If they do find someone... they have the nightmare of going through a very bogged down Human Resource Department. For what? What did Miles accomplish while ruining our district all within a year?

I've been looking at the news articles on the NBC, ABC, CBS and they offer a skewed perspective from teachers. The only ones willing to comment on the convocation were the ones who had positive things to say. Those of us with criticisms are too worried about retaliation to say anything. So the news sites are listing the attitude of teachers as cautiously optimistic.

Miles stated, “It takes a village to educate kids.”

Then he need to saddle up Seabiscuit or Silver ride into the sunset back to Colorado and be a part of his own village (wife, son, Commander) . . . . . “HI-YO, SILVER! AWAY!”

Dear FMM, I think you could have been successful if you would have listened to teachers and staff, respected them, and LISTENED.  Teachers (staff) WANT to work for kids and with kids. We put everything on the line for DISD kids, sometimes including our own kids.  I think if you would have come in and said "what can I do for you?" Instead of "YOU WILL do this for me", you might have had more success. You looked dejected today, even sad. I bet you miss your wife and kids, or you should.  I dislike you, but I feel sorry for you, and for your failure in Dallas. Dallas is NOT Harrison. Dallas will NEVER be Harrison, and I think that is what you wanted to make it into.  I actually saw through your tough guy side today. You wanted to make it real, but were scared because you read the blogs and media. You were afraid of what the crowd reaction would be ON TV.  I would even give you a second chance, but you didn't give ANYONE a first chance, let alone second.  Live and learn. I hope your tenure in Dallas has made you grow, because that is what life is about, growing and moving forward.

I Love Miles

New teachers told us they heard the exact same speech with PowerPoint slides and video clips at NTO last week.

Last year's crop of new teachers said Miles did the same thing at their NTO.

Sounds like Miles has one stock speech and slide show that he uses for the entire year.

As I was wending my way home, tired and dejected and waiting for news that just won't come, I heard this story on NPR.

Okay, he's a Broad Toad, but damme, he makes it look good! Better a womanizing, Broad Toad than what we've got. I like the fact that he's been an educator for a long time and has made improvements without cutting teachers. He's calmed the relationship between their BOT and the schools. He's improved test scores by analyzing data, but he's a collaborator --not a dictator.

Advice to the BOT (minus Ranger), pay him any price to come to Dallas!

Wow! Rene Martinez, who was totally ok with segregation at Preston Hollow:

http://blogs.dallasobserver.com/unfairpark/2006/11/preston_hollow_do_the_white_th.php

is now an adjunct at Texas AM Commerce. Rene's actions led to the lawsuit that cost the district a cool million, the one they lost.

So now Rene goes after Tovar who doubled graduation rates at the largest Hispanic high school.

Strange, Rene had no problem with Teresa Parker's behavior, but he considered Tovar a problem?

Miles picks very strange bedfellows. Rene Martinez and Free Willy Jerome.

Persona non grata

What about that line regarding DISD wanting to give students choices and then emphatically saying he was NOT talking about charters?

Maybe this blog is having an effect! Was he talking to usins in this here blog?

Persona non grata
Persona non grata

Last year post Convo: a little unsure, but willing to give him and his vision a try.

This year post Convo: feelings of scorn and resentment toward an oppressive employer (that includes the BOT).

Well, with his cheap theatrics and smarmy talk, he did put the "hip" in hypocrite. I'll concede that rousing accomplishment.

RandomTeacher

Want my point of view? I am extremely resentful that I had hours of time wasted because I had no choice about having to attend the convocation. It was a pointless, crappy attempt to make people think he cares about students or teachers. I would have been more impressed if they'd brought in a DISD alumnus who had graduated from college. Hell, as a Skyline alumnus, I could've given that talk myself and pointed out that my most inspiring teachers were all veterans and were allowed to teach instead of worrying about BS LOs & DOLs. Instead he trots out kindergartners in tiny robes to capitalize on the cuteness factor. Notice that the classes of 2014-2017 were not represented in that parade. Also note that he said "most of these kids will probably go to college. Seems to me that he needs to be convinced of our kids' potential, not us.

Also, why on Earth can he show completely irrelevant clips from movies & commercials while I can't show instructionally relevant documentaries in class?

Finally, did anyone else notice how Brett Ship was desperately trying to get Sunset teachers to talk about the convocation, but none were willing to risk their jobs by commenting? Or consider the irony that the buses were all parked facing the Tony Tovar baseball field?

Hmm. Can you tell things irrigators me?

This day was soooooo depressing. :( Is there any hope left? I can't find it. Just more confusion and frustration on my campus.

SuprisedRene
SuprisedRene

Suprised Rene Martinez wasn't up there dancing with Miles since Rene now helps run the district from a flunky position at TAMU Commerce.

Old Rene helped run Tony Tovar out of Sunset.

Rene is Mike Miles boy, always emailing everyone on how to do their job and make Miles look good.

So Willy Jerome got sent back to Atlanta, but Rene Martinez is still behind the curtain trying to manipulate Oz. Maybe he could spend some time working on his TECAT test since passing that seemed out of his reach although Rene identifies himself as a former DISD administrator

Did TAMU C run those Pcard expenditures through their CFO to smell the stench or did they just need a campus flunky and were willing to take anybody?

Exactly what were Rene and Hector and Trini doing over at Sunset to keep the masses under control as they put a knife in Tovar's back?

Nothing more hysterical than Rene who was has been hired strictly through cronyism giving everyone else lectures on how to handle the principal firings in Dallas!

The man said Thank You to us TWICE.  TWICE.  Where is the sense of GRATITUDE instead of URGENCY????!!! What a meglomaniac!!! It was all about YOU and not US....Thank US for district gains not yourself for a Channel 8 sound byte...Those advances came because of US!!! All of US!!! And cheers and thank you to all of the hard working teachers of this district who, despite insurmountable odds, made it HAPPEN for students.  Where is the Thank You, Miles??? Where is the THANK YOU???!!!!! Pure narcissism...that young man who spoke was MY student when he was young and I take credit for his success, NOT YOU, Miles. And asking those who have been in the district for a year was an INSULT...how about asking those who have been here for 10 YEARS----THAT is true dedication....you'll never know Miles...you'll never know....You.Are.A.Bully.

Miles looked alone and left out to dry as others looked at him with deaf ears.  It was a bunch of fake claps and laughs.  Thanks for the time out of the building but a total waste of time and money considering the buses that were used to shuttle from campus to campus.  He cost the district thousands and for what?  Then the district had shuttles from the gym to the parking lot, again for what?  Can teachers or administrators not walk 300 yds?  After it was over I saw 1 person on 2 of the buses shuttling.  WASTE OF MONEY!!!

S54 Time
S54 Time

Whole silly convocation complete with clown dancing was a total waste of time.  All the tech problems in the beginning are shades of more to come.  Was NOT amused or impressed!

Disrupted DISD
Disrupted DISD

OK, Magic Mike, you can't have it both ways:

"Miles thanked the employees for continuing the good work built on from past years. He touted the district’s showing in recent state performance ratings and its increased graduation rate.

“The teachers and staff stepped up and did a great job,” he said. But he added that there’s still work to do."

If the teachers and staff did such a great job, then why did you get rid of over 60 principals and thousands of teachers? Why was that necessary when you can tout the state testing scores?  Do you think that just happened all by itself?

Someone commented on the DMN site that when Miles asked for the new teachers to stand up, over half the gym stood up. Is Miles sure that these new teachers can do a better job, or even as good a job, as the ones he forced out?

Parents, taxpayers, board and mayor.... please save our district.

I'm not sure how many more horror stories that you need to hear to convince you that Miles does not know how to positively lead our district to success.  We are starting this year with a massive number of first year principals and first year teachers because of his bullying tactics.

To my award winning good friend that left the district because he was written up for having his lights off and blinds closed during his power point lesson:  "I would have begged to be in your classroom instead of Miles' classroom!"

I never could find the video of the convocation. I am still hopeful I can watch Mr. Sensitive Empathy dance later on U tube. I need a laugh today.

I captured the video presentation late. All I saw was a bunch of horses asses with white rear ends on top riding into the distance. Was that the theme of the convocation?

I have been unable to access the video, so I'm hopeful U Tube will have it later.

This was probably not on the live feed, but I was there:  Anybody see Carla Ranger arrive?  Mostly everybody was in there place seated, but the actual event hadn't started yet.  She walked to her seat which was 3 down from where Miles was sitting.  As she was approaching, Miles stood up (I'm assuming to greet her), and you could tell he was getting ready to extend his hand to shake her's.  She just walked on by.  Brrrrr.  Cold shoulder, big time.  Kind of childish of her, but I'm ashamed to say I enjoyed it.

@Retaliation Time I found the combination of tiny bums and horses' asses somewhat ironic. I found it interesting when he was talking about a team effort when there is only one winner in a race.  The Scottish bank commercial was just surreal.

@RandomTeacher I watched it. It was truly pathetic. I could hear little audience participation.

@RandomTeacher Actually, one teacher from Sunset did talk to Brett and she lavishly praised Miles.  I'm too tired to go to WFAA and find the link, but it aired on the 6:00 newscast.

I'm pretty sure we are not allowed to talk to reporters while we are being paid by DISD.  If this teacher had said something negative about Miles, retribution would have been swift and certain.

But since she praised Miles, I'm equally sure the rules will not apply.  How convenient for Miles.

I'm not okay with a teacher getting written up if he or she slams Milesligula unless the ones who praise him get written up, too.

@SuprisedRene

Degree mills can't be that choosy. Remember the old joke about Commerce, Texas, "Don't drive through with your window rolled down or someone will throw a diploma in."

Really high quality place. Did Rene bring Hector along to give a class on traveling on school district money for fun and politics to teach students how to get a hack politician job in DISD for 30 years where they get to recruit for LULAC on taxpayer money?

Tovar was way too ethical for Rene, and Hector. So they went over just in case there was trouble for bullying Tovar into leaving.

Hey Rene, if playing teacher doesn't work out, Schutze needs someone to fetch donuts for him. Both of you tanked long ago.

@CrayolaMan Half the teachers at my school quit over the summer.  The remaining half are all saying that they are getting out this year.  An easy dozen have been told by the suburbs to start sending in applications as early as March.

That's what treating teachers so badly leads to:  a mass exodus of the dedicated, the talented and the caring.

@A is for Abigail @Let Us Pray

Rene has left a wonderful paper trail a mile wide as he directed the district from his perch at LULAC.

Now if someone from the NAACP had sent out directives on a daily basis referring to principals as incompetent and how LULAC was just a nest of cronyism, it wouldn't be tolerated.

Rene supported the removal of Tovar and rounded up his gang just in case there needed to be data to back up the harassment of principals and teachers.

Rene did all this and signed his emails as an adjunct from TAMU Commerce.

Does John Sharp want his university represented by Rene Martinez's attempts to direct DISD? Is this part of Rene's role while he is on the state payroll at TAMU?

Were all his emails sent on state time and on state email?

He wasn't acting as a private citizen, but always referenced his directorship at LULAC or his adjunct status at TAMU.

Once again, was this direction of the district part of his adjunct role?

@Book Fairy After a 1 hour schoolbus ride and about 40 minute wait sitting on the gym's seating, most of our school wasn't really in the mood to participate.

@A is for Abigail I was amongst the "lucky" audience. A reporter from one of the stations approached as our school was leaving. I made sure to move quickly before he came near. I honestly couldn't comment with a straight face if they tried to interview me.

@Quo Qu ohhh @SuprisedRene

Rene was running around trying to figure out how to take Medrano's seat even though he doesn't live in the district.

How many tax payer dollars wind up over at the Dallas Hispanic Chamber of Commerce? Why exactly is the Chamber taking money away from kids?

Maybe they needed it to hire attorneys to fight off Hector when he tried to take over. He though the Chamber was DISD and he just had to play the race card.

Oh, yeah, they are the same race. He just embarrassed them.

@justsayingitagain Why were they there in the first place?  Was it that imperative that they be dragged to Skyline to see Miles "live"?

Why did anyone have to go?

I agree. People's livelihoods and careers are on the line. This is serious. It's one of the reasons why I left. One not so good evaluation can be explained away but two in a row.

John Sharp Lover
John Sharp Lover

@A is for Abigail @Let Us Pray

That is a very interesting question since the Rene Martinez paper trail is usually signed as if Rene's role at Texas AM Commerce is really important.

Wonder if Sharp knows about Rene's pcard days when every Thursday was Fiesta Mart day. The public never got an explanation of how dropout recovery and Fiesta Mart shopping were tied together, but then so many Pcard offenders offered no excuses for their behavior.

Things are tight in the TAMU system and Sharp doesn't like waste.

Hope Rene wasn't wasting the state's time and email for his rants about how the communications department at DISD was to be run. Didn't know he was hired to manage that department or to round up LULAC with pitchforks against DISD principals.

Tired Tech Teacher

@justsayingitagain @A is for Abigail Our principal was one of the dancers at the end. We had no choice.

But then, we were all the way at the other end of the gym from the stage.

I'd rather have saved the 2 hours drive time, 45 minute wait, and sore backside and watched it on the tv.

justsayingitagain

@A is for Abigail @justsayingitagain  I think they needed "people". I wonder if they took schools with lots of "newbies to cheer. I am not sure how that worked out, because at my school that attended, we DID cheer for our principal, but nothing else (but for the tiny kids of 2030 graduation classes)
